I have just returned from a play session with my foster kittens. I had five this morning, and one was adopted early this afternoon. Consequently (and obviously) that left me with four to play with (plus one kitten, Lilly, who has a profile up at my page--she is our family kitty now)....The oldest kitten is about nine weeks old, two are about seven weeks and one about six. All but one are brown tabbies; the fourth is called a "blue". She also has the most unusual curly coat, somewhat like a little Afro. Hmm, maybe that would make an interesting name. Her name is Starla on my kitten rescue web page (sounds better than Jheri Curl).
Then there is Piper (whom I call "Pie Face"), a little string bean of a kitty, very sleek but with huge ears and broad cheekbones, active as a little monkey, and a very loud and oft-used purr motor. She literally dances around the house.
Bitty is the youngest, and I am not sure she is completely normal. I referred to her as "the retarded one" earlier on this page and call her Hayley on my kitten site. Tonight however, she seemed to be enjoying herself, very playful and actually quite aware, so maybe she's only a little on the slow side.
Finally there is Phoebe, very lynx-like face, huge ears with black tufts, soulful eyes, and a sweet, angelic disposition, when she isn't pretending I'm prey and nipping and bunnykicking my hand. When I pick her up though, she relaxes and begins kneading the air.
Fletcher is the kitten who was adopted today. Lilly was beginning to teach him all of her bad little tricks, and he has been a very avid student-- tearing up my silk flowers, diving into the trash and climbing the curtains. He is now diving in another family's trash I am sure, and I am betting that everything he's doing is "cute" tonight....(tomorrow is another matter altogether)....but I imagine he is enjoying the limelight as the new, adorable, spoiled kitten. (Not that I see many "old" kittens!)
That's the current cast of characters.
All were fed and had just awakened from their nap this evening and were feeling frisky and playful. This time yesterday they were all subdued because I had given them their vaccines and they seemed to be feeling achy and dumpy. Today they have more than compensated, and as I sat on the floor with them, they proceeded to use me as a sharpening post, a lookout tower, a ladder, something to hide behind, something to purr at, something to squabble over, something to jump on, something to jump from, and a "safe zone"....I felt very versatile and valued.
Tonight was a nice contrast to this time last night, when I was tending to a St. Bernard that had been hit by a dump truck....which to me was a bit overdone....I mean, I could have stayed pretty busy with a Collie and a Camry. It was a lot of work trying to shoot xrays and carry this....horse.....out to the van to transport to our main clinic. I knew I'd be tired today, and I was right. The dog was the same size as me.

5:55 am - Setting the record straight?
I suppose I need to say once more, just to make sure that I am not misunderstood, that I truly do find beauty as well as humor in life and that much of what I write here is me being as opinionated and full of crap as I can possibly be--namely, because this is kind of like my diary here, and everyone is entitled to shoot the BS in his/her own diary, right?
I spend the vast, vast majority of my life being kind and right and politically proper and here is my forum to be the biggest goombah in the world and get it out of my system. Don't we all have at least a little goombah in every one of us? From time to time we all need to embrace our inner idiot!
